Srinagar (Point News Today / Pakistan Point News - NNI. 09 February 2025) Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control and around the world paid rich tributes to Muhammad Afzal Guru on his 12th martyrdom anniversary and renewed their pledge to continue the struggle until freedom from Indian occupation. According to Kashmir Media Service, Indian authorities hanged Muhammad Afzal Guru on February 9, 2013, in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail.

The Indian court judge, defending the execution, said that the decision was taken to satisfy the collective conscience of Indian citizens. Legal experts and human rights activists called it a judicial murder. Afzal Guru was hanged secretly and without informing his family, which is a stain on India’s so-called democracy.

The people of occupied Jammu and Kashmir call it an unjust decision.

Afzal Guru's body has not been handed over to his family yet, but he was buried in Tihar Jail. Legal experts and political analysts say that Afzal Guru, like other Kashmiri martyrs, has become a symbol of resistance against oppression. His sacrifice will continue to inspire freedom fighters in the occupied territory. The All-Party Hurriyat Conference said in a statement issued in Srinagar that martyrs like Afzal Guru breathed new life into the freedom struggle of the Kashmiri people and inspired new generations to resist India's illegal occupation.

The Hurriyat Conference said that India's brutal actions, including the systematic massacre of Kashmiri youth, will never be able to suppress the desire of Kashmiris for their UN-recognized right to self-determination. Meanwhile, Indian troops intensified their brutal operations in the occupied territory, raiding houses and arresting several youth to prevent them from paying tribute to the sacrifices of Muhammad Afzal Guru for freedom.

However, the Kashmiri people are steadfast in their resolve, honoring the sacrifices of their martyrs and taking the freedom movement forward. The All-Party Hurriyat Conference and other pro-freedom leaders have urged the international community to hold India accountable for human rights violations in occupied Jammu and Kashmir and resolve the Kashmir dispute in accordance with UN resolutions.
