Washington (Point News Today/ Sputnik - International Press Agency. February 8, 2025) US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order imposing sanctions on the International Criminal Court (ICC) for investigating Israel. According to the US broadcaster, Trump’s presidential order accuses the ICC of engaging in unlawful and baseless actions targeting the United States and its ally Israel. According to the presidential order, the ICC has abused its authority by issuing “baseless arrest warrants” against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Israeli Defense Minister Yuvraj Gallant.
The executive order states that the ICC has no authority to take action against the United States and Israel, while the court has set a dangerous precedent by doing so. It should be noted that the United States and Israel are neither members of the ICC nor recognize it. The ICC had issued arrest warrants for Prime Minister Netanyahu and then-Israeli Defense Minister Yu Gallant, as well as the leader of the Palestinian militant organization Hamas, over Israel’s military operation in Gaza.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has thanked President Trump for his executive order banning the International Criminal Court (ICC). In a statement issued by Netanyahu’s office, the Israeli prime minister said that the order would protect Israel from an anti-Semitic, corrupt court. Netanyahu said that the International Criminal Court has no legal basis to issue judgments against us.
According to the US presidential order against the ICC, the United States will impose strong sanctions on those responsible for violations of the ICC. These sanctions may include a ban on entry into the United States of ICC officials, employees and their relatives, as well as a freeze on their properties and assets. The International Criminal Court did not immediately comment on President Trump's executive order.
