New York (Point News Today/ Pakistan Point News - APP - 03 January 2025) Following the recent attack on Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza and the arrest and detention of its director, two independent UN experts have called for an immediate end to serious violations of the right to health in Gaza. The experts say that during more than a year of genocide, Israel’s open aggression on the right to health in Gaza and other occupied Palestinian territories has reached new depths of injustice.

The statement was issued by two independent experts appointed by the UN Human Rights Council, Dr. Tlaling Mofokeng (Special Rapporteur on the right to physical and mental health) and Francesca Albanese (Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the occupied Palestinian territory), according to the Emirates News Agency (WAM).

The experts expressed shock and concern at the attacks on health workers in northern Gaza, in particular the operation against the Kamal Adwan Hospital, the last of the 22 destroyed hospitals.

They called on Israel to respect and protect the right to life and health in Gaza and throughout the occupied Palestinian territory. They stressed that it must also ensure the immediate release of Dr. Hussam Abu Safia and all other arbitrarily detained health workers. In addition, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs warned that civilians are not safe anywhere in the Gaza Strip.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said in a statement that the Israeli army has once again ordered the evacuation of an area of approximately three square kilometers in northern Gaza and Deir al-Balah Governorate. This was followed by reports of attacks in the Al-Mawasi area, where people were ordered to move to safe shelters.

The statement added that every day without a ceasefire will lead to more tragedies, as Israeli disengagement orders are in effect on more than 80 percent of the Gaza Strip. The statement from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs revealed that overall, 39 percent of UN attempts to move aid workers into Gaza were rejected by Israeli authorities, while 18 percent were blocked or disrupted on the ground.\932
