Islamabad (UrduPoint News Today/ Pakistan Point News - 11th Jan, 2025 ) Since independence, it has been a tradition for Indian Prime Ministers to send a shawl to the dargah on the occasion of the Urs of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti. After the news of Prime Minister Modi sending the shawl, Hindu Sena National President Vishnu Gupta said that sending the shawl should be postponed until the case is underway.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday congratulated the people on the occasion of the Urs of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti. Along with this, he handed over the traditional shawl to be offered at the Ajmer Sharif Dargah to Union Minister for Minority Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju and BJP Minority Front President Jamal Siddiqui.

Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti’s dargah was a Shiva temple, Hindu Sena claims

Kiran Rijiju will go to Ajmer on January 4 where he will present the shawl sent by Prime Minister Modi on the occasion of the Urs of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti.

PM Modi later wrote on his social media account X, "Congratulations on the Urs of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti. May this occasion bring happiness and peace in everyone's life."

Kiran Rijiju shared a picture of the Prime Minister handing over the chador to him and BJP Minority Morcha President Jamal Siddiqui on social media.

Statement from Ajmer Sharif Dargah Committee

Sayyed Naseeruddin Chishti, the Sajjada Nashin of Ajmer Sharif Dargah, welcomed the move. Chishti said, "PM Modi's sending of the chador is a befitting reply to those who have been talking about creating religious fanaticism in the name of temples and mosques for the past five months.

While the government is maintaining respect for the country's civilization and culture."

This statement by Naseeruddin Chishti is being linked to the petition filed by Hindu Sena national president Vishnu Gupta regarding the dargah. In November last year, an Ajmer court had approved the hearing of the petition of an organization called Hindu Sena, which claimed that the dargah of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti was built on top of a Shiva temple.

The court directed the Dargah Committee, the Ministry of Minority Affairs and the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to issue summons notices.

Opposition parties including the Congress have criticized the BJP for claiming the dargah.

Hindu Sena's response

Vishnu Gupta said in a letter sent to the Prime Minister's Office, "I have filed a petition in the Sankat Mochan Mandir vs. Ajmer Dargah Khwaja Sahib case.

This matter is pending in the Ajmer West District Court. In this application, I have presented sufficient evidence, which shows that there was an ancient Shiva temple at the shrine, which was built by the kings of the Chauhan dynasty. I have also requested the experts of the Archaeological Survey of India to conduct a scientific survey of the entire disputed area of the buildings of the Ajmer Dargah Sharif.

"

Gupta has said that 'I have no objection to sending a chadar anywhere. But if it is sent by a person holding a constitutional post, then my case will be affected. Till the time this case is going on, sending the chadar should be postponed.'

Political color on the chadar

Opposition parties, including the Congress, have criticized the BJP, mocking Prime Minister Modi for sending the chadar.

Former Rajasthan Chief Minister and Congress leader Ashok Gehlot said that "on one hand, Prime Minister Modi is offering 'chadar' at the Ajmer Sharif shrine, on the other hand, his party members are "creating confusion by going to court." He asked, "What kind of message is being given? Where there is unrest, there cannot be development."

Aam Aadmi Party leader and Delhi government minister Saurabh Bhardwaj sarcastically asked in a social media post, "Is BJP changing? Earlier they were demanding salaries of imams of Delhi mosques, now they have offered chadar at the shrine."
