Islamabad (UrduPoint News Today/ Pakistan Point News - 15th Dec, 2024 ) According to reports received from the federal capital Berlin on Monday, December 30, Friedrich Meier, who is significantly ahead of his rival for the post of Federal Chancellor compared to Social Democrat leader Olaf Scholz in opinion polls, said in an interview with the German news agency dpa that immigrants and refugees from Syria and Afghanistan who have committed crimes should be deported without delay.

Friedrich Meier, who is the unanimous candidate for the post of Chancellor of the conservative Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and its ally in the state of Bavaria, the Christian Social Union (CSU), also acknowledged that the situation in Syria, a country that has been suffering from civil war for years, is still unstable.

Union parties' stance on Syria and Afghanistan

"Our position in the CDU and CSU has long been that migrants from Syria and Afghanistan in Germany can be deported and sent back to their home countries, and that's what should happen," Friedrich Maiers told dpa.

The important thing is that we will do that."

The conservative German politician added that a lot of attention should now be paid to who should be allowed to come to Europe from Syria in the current circumstances?

"I would not like to see people from Syria in Germany who are members of Bashar al-Assad's militia groups who have committed serious crimes there, under any circumstances," he said.

A clear message: immediate return from the borders

The Christian Democratic Union leader, Meirs, said that in his opinion, the message to such migrants should be very clear: “We will send you back immediately from the borders.” At the same time, Meirs also said that in this regard, there would also be a need to make things more coordinated and coordinated with all other EU member states.

According to German authorities, the number of Syrians currently living in the country is around 975,000. The vast majority of them have been living in Germany since 2015. More than 300,000 of them have a low level of protection as migrants and the reason they were allowed to stay in Germany was not that they were individually persecuted and oppressed in Syria.

Friedrich Meirs also reiterated the political thinking of the Union parties that Germany “needs a political change in its immigration policy.”
