South Korea is an important ally, US President

Islamabad (Point News Today / Pakistan Point News - 15th December, 2024 ) South Korea's acting President Han Deok-soo has assured the country's allies of support as his first attempt to stabilize financial markets is to stabilize the country's financial markets.
President Yoon Seok-yeol was impeached for a failed attempt to impose martial law. His impeachment motion in parliament was successful on Saturday and he has been suspended.
Now the country's Supreme Court will decide his political future. A final decision in this regard is expected in six months.
Prime Minister Han has assumed the duties of acting president after President Yoon's suspension.
Han spoke to US President Joe Biden on the phone on Saturday. A day later, Han said in a statement, "South Korea will continue its foreign and security policies without disruption and will strive to ensure that the South Korea-US alliance is maintained and steadily developed.

The main opposition party has announced that it will not request the impeachment of Han for his involvement in Yun’s decision to impose martial law on December 3.
Opposition Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung told reporters that excessive impeachment could lead to confusion in national governance, so his party has decided not to move forward with the impeachment process.
Meanwhile, opposition leaders are demanding that the court begin immediate proceedings against Yun.
The court will begin hearing the case on Monday and has been given 180 days to make a decision. But observers say the court’s decision could come soon. Until then, Yun’s powers and presidential duties have been suspended.
Democracy is stable in South Korea, US President
In a telephone conversation with South Korean interim President Han, Biden stressed Washington’s strong ties with Seoul.
A statement issued by the White House said that President Biden expressed confidence that this alliance, under Acting President Han, will lead to peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.
The White House added that President Biden praised democracy and the rule of law in South Korea and reiterated America’s iron-clad commitment to the South Korean people.
