Inauguration of the sixth Software Technology Park (STP) in Bhimber

Bhimber (Point News Today / Pakistan Point News - NNI. 11th December, 2024) The Special Communication Organization (SCO) has inaugurated the sixth Software Technology Park (STP) in Bhimber to empower the youth through IT, as part of SCO’s Vision 2025, which aims to transform Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) into an IT-connected region. Major General Umar Ahmad Shah, Hilal-e-Imtiaz (Military), Director General SCO formally inaugurated the STP, which is a milestone in empowering the youth and promoting regional development.


Located at the SCO Exchange in the heart of Bhimber city, this STP is in line with SCO’s vision of “Empowering the Youth through Providing Sustainable IT Environment in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan”.

This is the 21st project under the plan to set up 50 Software Technology Parks and Freelancing Hubs (FLHs) in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Each STP/FLH has offices, high-speed internet, and uninterrupted power supply, providing a corporate IT environment for startups and freelancers.


Bhimber STP has so far attracted six startups and 24 freelancers, creating significant job opportunities for the youth and helping local youth acquire specialized IT skills. Addressing the inaugural ceremony, the SCO Director General emphasized that Bhimber Software Technology Park reflects SCO’s commitment to building a digital ecosystem in Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan and paves the way for transforming the region into an IT hub as per Vision 2025.


He termed the special interest and guidance of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) as key in implementing this vision and empowering the youth of the region. Director General Special Communications Organization Major General Umar Ahmed Shah further said that the youth of Pakistan are no less capable than the youth of any other country in the world. As far as opportunities are concerned, they have been provided by SCO. Now it is up to the youth of Azad Kashmir to make the most of these facilities. The prestigious ceremony was attended by Sector Commander SCO Azad Kashmir Colonel Yousuf Javed, along with senior military and civil administration officials, IT professionals and youth in training. The participants of the ceremony termed the services of SCO and the efforts made for the development of IT as an important milestone for the socio-economic development of Azad Kashmir. The young professionals expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Special Communications Organization (SCO) for establishing such a software technology park that would benefit not only men but also women from all walks of life, including It is also providing housewives, working women, and students with the opportunity to work in a safe environment and enable them to contribute to the digital economy.
