London (Point / Pakistan Point News Today- NNI. 11 December 2024) The All-Party International Kashmir Coordination Committee in the UK has urged Prime Minister Keir Starmer to fulfill his promise to play his role in resolving the Kashmir dispute. According to Kashmir Media Service, a delegation led by Tehreek-e-Kashmir UK leader and Chairman of the All-Party International Kashmir Coordination Committee, Faheem Kayani, submitted a petition to 10 Downing Street demanding that the UK take decisive steps to resolve the Jammu and Kashmir dispute.

The delegation included prominent British MPs Andrew Pax, Gareth Sunil, Nadia Whittom and David Williams. Other notable participants included Stoke-on-Trent Council Deputy Leader Muhammad Amjad Wazir, Councillor Zainab Raja, Councillor Majid Hussain and President of the Pakistan Community Centre in Reading, Muhammad Saleem.

The petition reminded Prime Minister Starmer of his 2020 letter to Iffat Nawaz of the Muslim Council of Britain, in which he stressed the importance of resolving the Kashmir issue.

The petition urged the Labour government to take practical steps to ensure the implementation of the UN-recognized right to a referendum for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The petition condemned the Indian occupation of Jammu and Kashmir since 1947, which is being prolonged with the help of more than one million soldiers, paramilitary forces and police personnel. The petition also highlighted the ongoing human rights violations under the Modi government’s policies, describing them as tantamount to genocide, which are aimed at changing the demographics of the region.

The petition called on Prime Minister Starmer to advocate for justice, human rights and the right to self-determination for the Kashmiris. The petition stressed the need for a diplomatic solution through dialogue with Pakistan and the pro-independence Kashmiri leadership.
