Lahore High Court seeks bail in May 9 cases

Earlier on Saturday, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan approached the Lahore High Court for post-arrest bail in eight cases related to the May 9 riots. According to local media, eight different petitions have been filed in the Lahore High Court through Barrister Salman Safdar.

A two-member bench comprising Chief Justice Alia Neelam and Justice Asjad Javed Gharal will hear these petitions on Monday, January 13.

It may be recalled that an anti-terrorism court had rejected Imran Khan’s bail application in these cases on November 27.

The petitions mainly argued that the prosecution had failed to prove the applicant’s connection with the incidents mentioned in the FIR.

The petition said that the applicant has been implicated in the May 9 cases only for political reasons as part of a systematic plan to harass and humiliate him even though he is in the custody of NAB.
