Tel Aviv (Point News Today / Latest News - International Press Agency. December 11, 2024) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has strongly rejected the corruption case against him, calling it political revenge. According to a foreign broadcaster, in a historic occasion, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu arrived in court to testify as a defendant in a criminal case.
Netanyahu is accused of providing regulatory incentives to media owners in exchange for positive coverage and receiving gifts from a Hollywood producer, including expensive cigars and pink champagne, but he has called the allegations baseless and ridiculous.
His lawyer, Amit Haddad, argued in court that the case was designed to target only one person and that the prosecution was waging a political campaign against Netanyahu instead of investigating a crime. Netanyahu told the court that he had been waiting for this moment for eight years to present his case.
He said that I am leading the country during a war on seven fronts, and I believe that all these things can go together. Prosecutors say that Netanyahu used his official position to gain personal benefits, but Netanyahu strongly denies all these allegations and calls them an attempt to damage his political career. Netanyahu said that the Israeli media has constantly unfairly attacked him, and it is ridiculous to say that gifts given to him by friends were illegal. The case comes at a time when Israel is facing internal and external challenges, including the ongoing war in Gaza and military operations in Syria.
