Mosque set on fire in West Bank, blamed on Israeli settlers

Islamabad (UrduPoint News Today / Pakistan Point News - 20th December, 2024 ) Salfit Governor Abdullah Kamil says that a mosque named Bir al-Waldin was targeted in the village of Marda. He said in a statement issued about the incident, “A group of settlers attacked and set fire to the mosque in the morning.” He alleged that the attackers also wrote racist phrases on the walls of the mosque.

Governor Abdullah Kamil alleges that before this incident, Israeli settlers entered the village under the supervision of the country’s army.

He also claimed that similar incidents continue to occur in other nearby villages in the occupied Palestinian territory of the West Bank.

The Palestinian Authority’s Foreign Ministry in Ramallah confirmed the incident, calling it a “clear example of racism.” The Palestinian ministry also said that such incidents were “an example of the incitement campaigns of the far-right elements of the Israeli government against the Palestinian people.”

“On the other hand, the Israeli police and the Internal Security Agency have also described the matter as very serious. Officials said that evidence is being collected from the scene and the incident is under investigation. They have also assured that those responsible for the arson will be punished.

The Gaza Strip war, which began in response to Hamas’s terrorist attack in Israel on October 7 last year, has also seen an increase in deadly violence in the occupied Palestinian territory of the West Bank.

Since the start of the Gaza Strip war, 803 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces or settlers in the West Bank. During this time, 24 Israelis have also been killed in bloody Palestinian attacks there.

Israel has occupied the West Bank since the 1967 Arab-Israeli War.
