Donald Trump is Time Magazine's 'Person of the Year' once again

Islamabad (Point News Today/ Pakistan Point News - 13th December, 2024 ) According to the magazine's position regarding the award of the title of Person of the Year to the newly elected US President, Trump has been given this title due to his historic return as president, the beginning of a new era in domestic politics, the traditional status of the US president and the significant change in the role of the US on the global stage.

Time Magazine Editor-in-Chief Sam Jacobs explained this decision in an interview with the American broadcaster NBC, saying, "Positive or negative, Trump's character and his activities will be the most important topic of news in the year 2024."

According to Sam Jacobs, it cannot be denied that whoever holds the office of the US presidency has the greatest impact on the global stage and that is why he becomes the center of news.

Other candidates shortlisted for this year’s Person of the Year include Mexico’s first female president Claudia Sheinbaum, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and Russian economist and widow of the late opposition leader Alexei Navalny, Yulia Navalny.

Criticism of Ukraine

In a recent interview with Time magazine, Trump criticized Ukraine’s use of U.S. missiles to strike inside Russia, calling it “crazy.”

“I strongly oppose firing missiles hundreds of miles into Russia,” Trump said. “Why are we doing this? We’re just escalating this war and making it more complicated. We should never have allowed this to happen.”

Trump, speaking about his plans for illegal immigrants, said that new camps could be set up to hold immigrants in detention before they are deported. In addition, the military could be involved in the whole process.
