Washington (UrduPoint News Today/ Pakistan Point News - Online. December 29, 2024) US President-elect Donald Trump has made a U-turn after he raised the issue of deporting immigrants living in the US. According to media reports, during a debate on Saturday, he told his biggest supporter, billionaire businessman Elon Musk, that he supports a special visa program that would help highly skilled workers enter the country.
Donald Trump recently said that he supports H1-B visas, which allow American companies to hire highly skilled foreign workers. Interestingly, this comment came after the announcement of deporting foreign immigrants living in the US.
A heated debate has erupted between Elon Musk and Donald Trump supporters over immigration policies.
Musk has strongly defended his stance, saying he is ready to fight a war on the issue. Donald Trump’s tough stance on immigration played a major role in his election victory over President Joe Biden. During his election campaign, Trump vowed to deport all immigrants who are living in the US without proper documentation and who cause problems for those who come under the law.
Elon Musk, who owns Tesla, SpaceX and other major tech companies, supported this, calling the H-1B visa program essential for the US technology industry. Musk said in his post that America needs twice as many engineers today. Recruiting the best talent from around the world is essential to our success. Indian-American tech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, who was recently nominated by Trump to head the Department of Justice, supported Elon Musk’s stance.
Ramaswamy said that it is important to promote excellence for the development of our country, and this is possible through the H-1B program. It should be noted that President Trump had restricted the H-1B visa policy in his first term, but in recent months he has appeared to support highly skilled foreign workers. In a podcast interview, he said that he is in favor of giving green cards to foreigners with American degrees. The H-1B visa program is issued annually to 65,000 foreign skilled workers for specific jobs, while an additional 20,000 visas are allocated for American degree holders. According to experts, this program expands the American economy and provides job opportunities.
