At least 20 more killed in Israeli strikes in Gaza Strip

ISLAMABAD (Point News Today / Pakistan Point News - DW News - 15 December 2024) The Hamas-run Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip said that three fresh air strikes on Sunday also targeted homes in Gaza City, killing at least 11 people. The remaining nine people were killed in separate military operations in Beit Lahia, Beit Hanoun and Jabaliya.


Israeli officials say Hamas fighters are using civilians as shields.


The European Union and the United States have designated the Palestinian organization a terrorist organization.


Local Palestinian residents say that homes in the three cities in the Gaza Strip were bombed, causing some to catch fire. The Israel Defense Forces have been conducting operations against Hamas militants in these cities for more than two months.

Eyewitnesses and Hamas medical officials also claimed that Israeli forces in Beit Hanoun surrounded families taking refuge in the Khalil Oveida school and carried out a military operation there.

Medical officials from the Palestinian organization Hamas also said that several people were killed and injured during the raid on the school, while Israeli forces also detained several people.


Palestinians accuse Israel of committing "ethnic cleansing" to create a buffer zone in northern Gaza. However, Israel denies this and says that the campaign aims to target Hamas militants and prevent them from regrouping.


How did the conflict begin?


The armed conflict in the Gaza Strip began when the Palestinian militant group Hamas carried out a major terrorist attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. The attack killed 1,200 people, most of whom were civilians. In addition, Hamas fighters took more than 250 people hostage and took them to the Gaza Strip.


After this terrorist attack, Israel began air, sea and naval attacks against Hamas fighters in the Gaza Strip, as a result of which, according to Palestinian sources, about 45,000 people have been killed to date, most of whom were civilians.
